Something big is taking root in Coronado! Thanks to the generosity of the former neighborhood group Trees for Harmony, and in partnership with the nonprofit Trees Matter, our neighborhood is about to welcome more shade than ever before.
Trees Matter is a local 501(c)(3) dedicated to fostering a healthier, more balanced tree canopy across the Valley of the Sun. Trees are more than just beautiful—they provide shade, clean our air, reduce dust and pollution, boost property values, improve mental and physical health, and even help fight climate change.
This fall, their mission is coming home to Coronado in a major way: 150 households have signed up for more than 270 shade trees—making this the largest tree-planting event our neighborhood has ever seen!
Here’s how it will work:
-
Tuesday, October 28 – Trees Matter will deliver all the trees to Coronado with the help of APS volunteers. The trees will be sorted and loaded onto flatbed trucks for neighborhood delivery that morning.
-
Saturday, November 1 – Planting Day! Beginning at 9 a.m., neighbors and volunteers—guided by Trees Matter arborists—will team up to get trees in the ground across Coronado. Volunteers will be split into groups and help households plant their new trees.
Want to help? We’ll need about 40 volunteers on November 1 to make this planting day a success. Sign up here to join the effort: Volunteer Sign-Up
This event is a beautiful example of neighbors investing in the future of Coronado. Every tree planted adds to our canopy, strengthens our community, and creates a healthier neighborhood for years to come.
