Serve on the CNA BoardLove Coronado? Help shape what's next.Coronado is a neighborhood full of people who care about where they live—and the Coronado Neighborhood Association is one way we turn that community spirit into action. Our all-volunteer Board of Directors helps bring neighbors together, support local initiatives, organize events, steward neighborhood resources, and advocate for the things that make Coronado such a special place to call home. We're always looking for fresh perspectives, new ideas, and neighbors who want to make a difference. You don't need nonprofit experience, a fancy title, or a perfectly clear vision for what you'd like to accomplish. Just a genuine interest in Coronado and a willingness to pitch in. |
What does the CNA Board do?Quite a bit, actually! The CNA Board helps guide the association's priorities and keeps our neighborhood programs, resources, and traditions going strong. Our work includes:

What's the commitment? We know everyone has jobs, families, hobbies, and a life outside of the CNA. Board service is a volunteer commitment, and the amount of time each person contributes can vary depending on their role, interests, and availability. Here's what you can generally expect:
Some positions have specific recurring responsibilities, while others offer more flexibility. We work together to distribute tasks based on individual interests, strengths, and capacity. You don't need to do everything. But we're counting on everyone to do something. |
Meet the Board PositionsThe CNA Board consists of nine volunteer members: four officers and five directors. Each position plays an important role in keeping the association running and helping our community thrive. PresidentHelping keep the big picture in focus. The President leads the Board, develops meeting agendas, helps set priorities, and supports the people and projects that keep the CNA moving forward. They also serve as a primary representative of the association in relationships with community organizations, partners, and other outside groups. The role includes certain administrative responsibilities, such as overseeing insurance and the association's mailbox, as well as authorized financial signing duties. Note: Candidates for President must have previously served on the CNA Board. Vice PresidentThe President's right hand, and a leader in their own right. The Vice President supports the President, steps in when needed, and helps guide Board priorities and initiatives. There's also room to take ownership of projects that align with their own interests and strengths. The Vice President is also an authorized signer for CNA financial transactions. TreasurerKeeping our dollars and cents in good hands. The Treasurer manages the CNA's finances, develops the annual budget for Board review, tracks income and expenses, maintains financial records, and provides regular financial updates to the Board and community. They also oversee financial obligations, including tax-related responsibilities, and manage reimbursements and payments in accordance with CNA's financial procedures. If spreadsheets make you happy, this might be your moment to shine. SecretaryKeeping us organized, informed, and connected. The Secretary helps maintain the records and systems that keep the CNA functioning. Responsibilities include documenting Board and public meetings, publishing meeting minutes, maintaining membership records, helping manage association accounts, coordinating meeting communications, and filing required corporate updates. This role is a great fit for someone who's organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys keeping all the moving pieces connected. Directors (5 positions)Bring your ideas. Find your niche. Make things happen. Directors help guide the CNA's decisions, vote on association business, lead or support programs and committees, and contribute to neighborhood initiatives. This is one of the most flexible ways to serve on the Board. Maybe you love planning events, organizing volunteers, supporting local businesses, writing, design, or working on neighborhood improvements. Maybe you have an idea nobody's thought of yet. Directors bring different interests and skills to the table, and together we figure out how to put them to good use. |
You might be surprised how many different skills and interests come in handy on the CNA Board!

How do Board Elections work? The CNA holds Board elections each spring for the term beginning June 1. All nine positions are elected annually. Who can run?Candidates must be active CNA members in good standing by the eligibility deadline established for that year's election. Candidates for President must also have previously served on the Board. How do I become a candidate? When nominations open, eligible members can put their names forward for a specific Board position. Candidates are typically asked to submit a short biography and headshot so neighbors can get to know them. We also invite candidates to attend our May General Meeting to introduce themselves, share why they're interested in serving, and meet fellow neighbors. Who gets to vote?Active, eligible CNA voting members can participate in Board elections. Eligible members receive an electronic ballot via email during the designated voting period. When are elections?Elections typically take place in early May, with results announced before the new Board term begins June 1. Exact dates and deadlines are published when the annual election process opens. |
